AGNIESZKA PRAXMAYER

Born in Cracow, Poland..
Studied at PLSP - State Art College.

Graduated in 1989 from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France;
Had worked for Gallerie Troubetzkoy, Paris for 13 years.
She divides her time between Cracow, Paris, Nice (Cote d'Azur), Washington D.C.

Specialized in commissioned portraits, produced for private clients as well as for institutions and television productions, for example: Tv series Highlander..

She favors a variety of mediums including oil and acrylic paints applied with both brush and with palette knife; oil pastels; ink and collages.

Her inspiration comes mostly from travels and nature.

-> Citation from the book:

   "Nature Art Today 2010":
'Inspired by her travels, Ag.Praxmayer has an ability to reinterpret the ordinary and present it to us in an array of colors, textures and abstractions.

She uses natural light to great effect and under her skilled artistic ministrations,

we catch tantalizing hints of the Mediterranean, e.g., Capri island, Naples, etc. The artist's milieu is nature: birds, leopards, aquatic life, coral reefs. There is a delightful tension in her work - the ability to use metaphor and make it come alive on canvas; the skilled use of juxtaposition that effortlessly expresses the inextricable relationship between beauty and its opposite, between chaos and  harmony, between the harsh and the sublime.
The artist writes: "In everything that is beautiful, there is the pull of that which is not."
In reference to coral reefs and the diving subjects, the artist's work is a metaphor of the contemporary human search for freedom and the fear of the unknown. "
